FAQ'S

What do I bring to practice?
Water bottle and/or sports drink. It's very helpful to label items.

Warm Ups - Athletes should wear warm-ups or have available for stretching routine and warm-up.

Training Shoes - No basketball or casual shoes. Athletes wear running shoes unless spikes may be used at  practice  for some workouts. Your coach will let you know.

Where can I buy running shoes/spikes?
You can buy running spikes at Dick's Sporting Goods, Sports Authority, Foot Locker, etc.

What can I expect at track meets?
Age group track meets take time due to the number of events offered and the large number of participants.  

Parents should expect to spend 4-8 hours. 

Due to this reason, we strongly recommend you come prepared - bring lunches, snacks, cooler with ice and plenty of water.  Depending on weather conditions - extra warm and dry clothing, umbrellas, sunglasses, stop watches, binoculars, comfortable seating and camera.

What to expect at practice?
Practice days are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.  There will be a minimum of 1 warm-up lap, stretching and remainder of time for specific practice.

Are there additional expenses?
The athlete's parent is responsible for transportation and meet entry fees which run $5.

Is parent attendance required at practice and meets?
Yes. A parent is required during all practice and meets. The coaches will be responsible for the athlete while on the track, however if the athlete should leave the track for any reason, the parent will need to take responsibility.

What ages can participate in DeSoto Nitro Track Club?
DeSoto Nitro is available from 6-18. Age is based on age as of 12/31 of the current year. Athletes who do not turn 19  prior to the end of the National meet are eligible to compete.

My child is 12 years old, why are they running in 13 or 14 year age group?
Age division is based on their age as of 12/31 of the current year, not their current age.

I want my child to participate but I can't afford it. What can I do?
Fundraisers and payment plans are available.

Nitro Track Tips

A simple daily hydration goal:


  • Drink ½ of your body weight in fluids per day
  • Ex: 200lb = 100oz fluid per day
  • Drink more if you are participating in some kind of training

Breakfast is the most important meal of an athlete’s day! Try this healthy breakfast option:


Loaded Oatmeal
Just add these ingredients to a regular bowl of oatmeal:

  • nuts
  • fruit
  • whey protein

Recovering from an injury? 

Remember these “healing foods":

  • beans
  • green tea
  • salmon
  • berries
  • cherries
  • sweet potatoes
  • walnuts
  • spinach
